Pokemon swords and shields are popular.

Pokemon sword and shield In Japan's Famitsu leaderboard, it has maintained its number one position for nine consecutive weeks.

This makes it the longest title to keep that position on the sales chart. Due to its staying power over the past nine weeks, it beat the previous record holder Pokemon Diamonds and Pearls.

Since its release in 2006, "Diamond" and "Pearl" have topped the Famitsu list for eight consecutive weeks.

Other Pokemon titles on the chart for a few weeks include: Pokemon Gold and Silver for six weeks, and Pokemon Black and White for five weeks.

Diamond and Pearl's previous record holder was the 2014 version of the Yo-Kai Watch 2 released within 7 weeks.

Famitsu has been calculating sales and publishing its weekly charts since 1995.
