Pokemon TCG Pocket may not have much built-in ranked mode, nor much competitive functionality beyond the standard PvP online battle mode, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t high-intensity matches. In fact, players are taking matters into their own hands.

The Pokemon TCG Pocket competitive scene is active on third-party websites, allowing players to organize tournaments outside of the game from the comfort of their homes. So far, all of these tournaments have been online, using sites like Play Limitless TCG as hubs for professional play.

The way it works is simple. After players visit the website, they will see a table of upcoming tournaments in Pokemon TCG Pocket. After registering an account, they can register any account they like and participate in high-end duels with hundreds of like-minded players. At the moment it’s mostly for fun and bragging rights, although at the time of writing there’s a French tournament with a whopping $25 in prize money up for grabs! Wow!

If the sudden emergence of the Pokemon TCG competitive scene surprises you, you shouldn’t. People have been collecting cards, brainstorming, and competing for years. Pokemon TCG Pocket is the latest and in many ways the best online Pokemon TCG game out there, giving these high-end gamers every reason to pack their bags and move on to the new hit.
