Director Yorgos Lanthimos gives us a modern, feminist reinterpretation of the “Frankenstein” story with “Poor Things”. The adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s novel “Poor Things” follows Bella Baxter, who is revived by a scientist and seeks her fortune in 19th century England.

Even though “Poor Things” is certainly not suitable for children due to its sex and violence, this fairytale story is Lanthimos’ most commercial film to date. Excellent reviews and 11 Oscar nominations make it clear: “Poor Things” is a hit! You’ll soon be able to see the film’s qualities for yourself on Disney+.

Disney+ launches shortly before the Oscars

In Germany, Disney+ is not yet revealing when “Poor Things” will appear on stream, but we do know that the film will land in the Canadian Disney+ program on March 7, 2024, the Friday before the Oscars.

This is interesting for two reasons: Firstly, German Disney+ subscribers can easily access the stream program from Canada with a VPN service and secondly, Disney+ almost always offers new films in Canada with a German soundtrack.

You can already stream “Poor Things” now

But if you don’t want to wait for “Poor Things” to start on Disney+, you can buy the film now on iTunes/Apple TV in the USA. This also works from Germany, as our iTunes instructions reveal. The fun costs $19.99, then the digital version of the film is yours. A cheaper rental version will follow at a later date. However, there is no German sound here.

The nine other films that are nominated for Best Film at the Oscars this year can already be watched in the stream. Our Oscar overview takes you to all streams!
