So far, balcony power plants have mostly come without storage. Ecoflow closes the gap and with the system called “PowerStream” has an immediately available product on offer.
Balcony power plants are on everyone’s lips. The solutions available on the market so far focus on generating solar power and feeding it into the domestic power grid for immediate consumption.
Balcony power plants with storage in comparison
From Anker, Zendure and EcoFlow
The costs for balc ony power plants and storage are falling, and now the combination of both is becoming attractive in terms of price. First providers offer solutions.
The amount of energy that exceeds your own consumption “disappears” via the power line in the public grid of the energy supplier, there is no remuneration for the feed-in. At the same time, the solar system on your own balcony only supplies electrical energy when the sun is shining. When it is dark, the energy that was previously fed in for free has to be “bought back” from the supplier at great expense.
Balcony power plant with storage
EcoFlow fills this gap with the combination of energy generation and storage called “PowerStream”: A smart inverter distributes the energy, supplies the consumers connected in the house and feeds the excess energy into an intermediate storage unit. The energy can then be withdrawn from this temporary store again when required. This solves a major problem for operators of solar systems: Where does the electricity come from when the sun isn’t shining?
Clever im Detail
That alone is innovative, but there are other companies working on such solutions, such as Zendure. EcoFlow used the somewhat longer development time to equip the system with further clever details that make the system unique.
Updateable inverter
On the one hand, the inverter is designed with a maximum feed-in power of 600 watts so that it does not exceed the current limit for feeding mini-PV systems into the domestic power grid. At the same time, the inverter is prepared to feed in 800 watts instead of 600 watts later after a software update, as soon as the legal framework allows. The industry expects such a decision in the next few months and very few balcony power plants can be updated so far.
Mobile power storage
On the other hand, the power storage used in the PowerStream from EcoFlow is not just a stationary energy storage device, but a mobile power station. The investment in the balcony power plant is also an investment in a mobile power supply: if necessary, you can also be supplied with energy when camping, in the garden and in the workshop.
With an app, the system can not only be controlled and monitored, but also “smart plugs” (intelligent sockets) in the household can be switched on and off in a targeted manner so that devices with the availability of solar power are switched on and off.
Three packages to start with, available immediately
At market launch, EcoFlow is offering the new system in three different packages and, unlike the two competitors with comparable storage solutions, can deliver immediately. The highlight is the complete package with 2 kWh storage and plug-in balcony power plant:
-
2x 400 Watt Solarpanel
-
2x Smart Plug
-
2x super flat cable for routing through windows and doors
-
1x smart micro inverter with 600 watts (upgradable to 800 watts)
-
1x Delta Max Powerstation from 2 kWh
-
Immediately available
In this package, two high-performance solar panels, each with 400 watts of peak power, are connected to a Delta 2 Max power station and two kWh storage capacity via the smart inverter.
In particular, the system with the Delta Max 2 as system storage and mobile everyday helper offers an attractive price at first glance, sufficient storage volume for the dark hours of the day and at the same time for extensive outdoor activities such as garden parties, camping or fishing trips.
However, EcoFlow also offers solutions with storage only for owners of a balcony power station, as well as a solution without storage for owners of a compatible power station.
