Tilt, Joystick, Generation 4, Micro News, Konsolen +, Joypad, Player One, etc. so many names that don’t appeal to the youngest, but have created a smile for over 30 years! It must be said that these video game titles were our only source of news and we eagerly awaited their release every month. H yes nostalgia if you hold us tight!
Presse-Start looks back on 40 years of video game magazines and tells the story of the founders until the decline of this realm of the specialist press.
It took no less than 400 pages to tell Poke or better “and Poke and Peek” this time, if I want to stay in the tone (winks joystick). Written in a very academic but dynamic style, we believe that Presse-Start should be a historic work of the video game press in France, especially in terms of technical, human and financial aspects.
The ease would have been to get sheets with beautiful pictures and two or three anecdotes / trivias from review to review, but this is not the tendency of the authors who have worked for five years to write them. Numerous interviews make the book very lively and pleasant to read.
The book may seem strict at first (the 16 color pages are presented, they take the covers of the titles mentioned in the book), but it is very easy to read and with undeniable joy if you were one of the readers of these magazines. To be honest, I devoured all the chapters on three evenings.
There is no doubt that Yves Breem and Boris Krywicki are signing a book that will mark a milestone in the history of video games in France.
Of course, I use this video to tell about my personal relationship with this so-called trade press and the look I have on it in retrospect. This is the advantage of over 40, we can speak knowingly 🙂
