The very loose adaptation of the Lord of the Rings appendices divided opinions when it came to its content, but one thing is clear: Prime Video spared no expense when it came to bringing Middle Earth to the small screen. Its second season goes for the bigger the better, teasing that we’ll see ten times more epic battles, which is all well and good. However, not even countless unleashed orcs can outshine Tom Bombadil.
On the occasion of the San Diego Comic-Con, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has shown a brutal trailer of almost four minutes in which we see both the visual display that the next batch of episodes will have and the ambition to offer glorious moments between action scenes, stoic sequences and, we will not deny it, more than one license provided by the team of scriptwriters. Luckily, along with these we will see more characters that were born from the pen of JRR Tolkien.
To put it just a little in context, the second season of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power continues the forging of the rings through the arts of Celebrimbor and the knowledge of Sauro, giving rise to the event that gives the series its name and, in the process, unleashing its dark influence, twisting the destinies of elves and mortals.
That said, and between one thing and another, The Rings of Power will give rise to the long-awaited debut of a character with a generous beard and a funny hat: Tom Bombadil. A mysterious being that readers of The Fellowship of the Ring met and to whom we can finally put a face.
A great little development, to be fair, given that Bombadil has always been a beloved figure among Tolkien Legendarium scholars and fans, and hopefully a lure for many of them to give the Amazon and MGM series another chance. Will we see Goldberry, too?
On the other hand, Amazon has offered several official images of the trailer in which it is possible to see how the Rings of Power gain enormous weight in the plot, gradually cementing the destiny of Middle Earth as the different races and creatures begin to take positions against the growing influence of Sauron.
