The long-running Prince of Persia franchise is known to be returning with a remake of The Sands of Time. However, the development work up to the release is now being looked after by a new studio.
Ubisoft puts the development work on the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in new hands. The new edition of the action classic was actually in the works at the Ubisoft studios in Pune and Mumbai, but they have now been summarily relieved of responsibility.
As the developer and publisher has now officially confirmed, Ubisoft Montreal will instead complete work on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The same development studio was previously responsible for the original Sands of Time trilogy, so it has plenty of Prince of Persia experience.
“This decision is an important step and building on the achievements of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, the team will now take the time to realign to bring you the best possible experience of this remake of an all-time classic when it it’s time,” it said in a statement.
Incidentally, Ubisoft thanked everyone for the support and patience regarding the long development time of the remake, but does not provide any further background as to why this step has now been taken.
The remake was originally announced in September 2022 and was supposed to be released in January 2021. This was followed by a postponement to March 2021 and later an indefinite delay. The title is still waiting for a new release date.
