Gaming News Prince of Persia: The Ubisoft remake still planned but still postponed
Recently we learned that the development of the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time changed hands, moving from Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal. If the news raises doubts about a possible release of the game for the current year, Ubisoft has just finalized its plans for the software.
Time flies… and still nothing
The announcement is from 2020: Ubisoft unveils the remake of its cult game Prince of Persia, originally released in 2003, during its Forward. The license is undeniably one of the studio’s most popular titles, so this news is enough to get many fans excited. Even better, the French giant is planning a release for January 10, 2021.
But a few months later, Ubisoft backed out and postponed the game until later this year. Eventually, the bad news follows one another like the successive shifts in the game. The title is even missing in the Ubisoft Forward June 2022 and since then the studio has stopped communicating further about this project, at least until recently.
That was just last May Prince of Persia remake appeared again. Ubisoft announced the transfer of software development from its Mumbai office to its Ubisoft MontrealBirthplace of the Sands of Time trilogy. If the news is that development is still active, it doesn’t bode well for an upcoming release. And on this subject, Ubisoft has just shared a level of accuracy that is not negligible.
The hourglass of development
As you might think, it’s still bad news that Ubisoft just announced to us. The Sands of Time remake is delayed again due to the change of studio responsible for development. This time around, the French giant isn’t sharing a date but is ruling out the possibility of an exit for the 2022-2023 season.
Due to the studio switch, we are no longer targeting a FY2023 release and the game has been delisted. If players who pre-ordered the game wish to cancel their pre-order, we encourage them to contact their resellers. More information will be released as development progresses.
So yes, the news is undoubtedly disappointing for many fans who are impatiently awaiting the Persian prince’s adventures, but it remains logical in relation to the prior announcement of the studio change. With Ubisoft abandoning the idea of a fiscal year 2023 release, we now have to expect a release after March next year. Depending on the studio, more information will be communicated later. So we’ll have to be patient before we find out more.
