Google announces Project Astra, a powerful AI assistant, at Google I/O. A video shows his skills. After 1 minute and 23 seconds the audience is left speechless.

Google is showing the next development stage of its Google Assistant at the Google I/O developer conference. The software, called “Project Astra”, uses the latest version of Google’s AI Gemini, which is able to process text, voice and image input with countless parameters. The aim of Project Astra is to develop an assistant that is really useful in everyday life and with which you can naturally interact.
The following example video shows you what this could look like in the future. In the video, a Google employee holds her phone on her desk and asks Project Astra what she sees there. Project Astra recognizes a loudspeaker and explains the structure. She pans the camera onto the screen of a colleague who is currently programming. Within a few seconds, Project Astra analyzed the code and explained what it was about.
AI can now even find your glasses in the office
She goes to the window and asks Project Astra where she is. The AI recognizes that she is in an office in London near King’s Cross. The audience at Google I/O applauds every answer with loud applause. Then after one minute and 23 seconds comes the surprise.
The Google employee asks the AI, can you remember where you saw my glasses? The AI responds. “Yes! On your desk next to the red apple”. In fact, this is where the glasses are located. The AI even demonstrates spatial knowledge in this clip. A murmur goes through the hall at Google I/O, followed by even louder applause.
Google is still leaving it open when you will be able to use Project Astra. Over the course of the year, the first features of the assistant will be introduced into other Google products – such as the Gemini app. In the next few weeks, Google AI should make it easier for you to work with Gmail and photos.
