Fans of hero and extraction shooters have more choice to choose from, as a new representative of the genre has now been announced with Project ETHOS.
Publisher 2K and developer 31st Union have officially announced their latest joint project, Project ETHOS. This is a third-person roguelike hero shooter that can also be classified in the extraction shooter genre. In the future, it will be possible to play for free in the free-to-play model.
In the roguelike hero shooter you should be able to realign your playing style in every game thanks to so-called evolutions. These are semi-random upgrades that are unique to each hero. F or example, you can develop a sniper into a melee fighter or into a support role.
As mentioned, the heroes are used in an extraction mode, the so-called trials. These are an ongoing and constant battle for cores that you can use to unlock and extract augments – and this in turn has an impact on future Trials runs.
Project ETHOS should now first be completed together with the community. Therefore, the makers have also planned and scheduled playtests. In a current test phase you can play two modes: the Trials and Gauntlet, a competitive head-to-head tournament mode.
The Community Playtest is currently available in the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Europe and Italy. The servers are open on weekends at the following times: October 18th to 21st from 2:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. the next day. You can find further details about the Community Playtest on the official website.
