As part of the PlayStation Showcase in May, Sony confirmed previous rumors that a new PlayStation handheld is in the works. At least the competitor Microsoft already has quite concrete ideas about the price range in which the Sony hardware will move.
The struggle over Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard deal with authorities around the world brings quite interesting details to light. After all, Sony is considered the most critical of the planned takeover, which will cost billi ons – and so arguments from all sides are regularly heard in the decision-making process of the antitrust authorities.
In the ongoing process between the FTC and Microsoft – the FTC wants to block the deal – Microsoft has now also commented on its competitor Sony and, in evaluating the video game market as a whole, also addressed the upcoming PlayStation handheld Project Q.
At the PlayStation Showcase in May, Sony confirmed the existence of the hardware; this is not a Vita successor, but a PS5 handheld that can play games via remote connection from the PlayStation 5. But what should the device, which is still waiting for a detailed presentation, possibly cost? Microsoft has a very specific idea: less than $300.
“Sony is expected to release a handheld version of the PlayStation 5 later this year for under $300,” Microsoft says in a statement regarding Project Q. For example, the wording could suggest an introductory price of $299. Would you strike at this price?
