news hardware PS5: New patented controllers… for the PSVR 2?
New patents are a fairly common technique for companies to protect their inventions with no guarantee that they will actually be commercialized one day. They do feature some pretty interesting tech though, like these new controllers from Sony…
Grip for the PSVR 2?
We hear a lot about the PlayStation VR 2 these days: first through the rave reviews of certain developers, but also through presentation rumors made possible thanks to a series of strange emails that would have been sent directly from Sony. As a result, many are expecting an event entirely focused on the virtual reality headset before long.
To keep up to date A user has discovered a new patent from the Japanese manufacturernot released until March 31, 2022. This one features a duo of controllers that appear to be dedicated to PSVR 2, both with an armband of sorts
An inspiration from the Valve Index?
One of the theories cited would be the inspiration of the Valve Index “Knuckles”: These controllers use a grip system that allows the player to let go of their fingers, which are captured by a system that allows them to transcribe their movements in-game.
On the other hand, these patents show controllers that differ significantly from the official photos Sony revealed months ago. Some think that it is simply their first prototype and that the system shown on the sketches will actually be implemented on the final object. Others believe it is simply a patent representing technology that is now protected but will not necessarily be commercialized (which is quite likely).
PSVR 2 still has no release date. According to rumors from the aisles, this will not happen before 2023.
