A few hours ago the new edition of the Playstation Showcase took place, an event that heralds this season of video game announcements. And there were some great announcements throughout the evening. We return to what should be remembered from this conference.

Summary

  • A few new things to look at
  • PSVR 2 and PROJECT F: Sony also relies on its latest technologies
  • FF16, MGS 3 Remake… the “big ones” from PS Showcase
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Let’s Star

A few new things to look at

We’ll start first with the new “surprises”, the titles that weren’t necessarily expected but that had the merit of showing their little impact during this Playstation Showcase. The conference started quickly with new apps like Helldivers II, a co-op TPS explicitly borrowing from the sci-fi hit Starship Troopers. Alone or with others, you must face hordes of insectoid aliens to protect humanity. Various goals, such as base defense or resource harvesting, have already been presented.

Another promising surprise is Phantom Blade 0, an action-adventure title (possibly with an RPG dimension) straight out of the Middle Kingdom. A feast for the eyes, the software runs on Unreal Engine 5 and promises fast-paced combat sequences while offering a dark fantasy storyline set in feudal China. We find in Phantom Blade 0 a bit Spirit of Tsushimaor Shadow’s The Twice Axe and even the much-anticipated Black Myth: Wukong. Quite an enticing mix.

PSVR 2 and PROJECT F: Sony also relies on its latest technologies

As well as the games themselves, Sony has chosen to also highlight its latest hardware innovations during the event. Players were able to see some new features coming to the PSVR 2 catalogue, the giant’s latest virtual reality headset, but also spotted two upcoming technology products.

First there is the “PROJECT Q”, a device that looks like a portable console, or almost. The idea is to have a machine available in addition to the PS5 that allows playing in Remote Play. The Project Q features an 8-inch HD screen supported by either end of a DualSense. In theory, Project Q will offer PS5 gamers the ability to access their toy library in streaming over WiFi, as long as they’ve previously installed their games directly onto their consoles.

In addition, Sony introduced a brand new pair of Bluetooth headphones, the Playstation Earbuds, which will be compatible with PS5 and PC. It will also be possible to pair them with a smartphone at the same time.

FF16, MGS 3 Remake… the “big ones” from PS Showcase

Alongside the more modest announcements, Sony also presented some big chunks at its conference. Final Fantasy XVI, whose release is just around the corner, has briefly caused a stir with a new trailer. See you on June 22nd.

By his side were also very beautiful people. Start with Metal Gear Solid Delta, the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 has been heavily mentioned for several weeks. This time, Big Boss officially returns to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, with overhauled graphics but gameplay and level design that stays true to the original game.

We also note the presence of Dragon’s Dogma 2announced for a long time, which appeared for the first time at this Playstation Showcase. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was discussed again with a gameplay that clearly represents a return to the basics of the license. The release date is scheduled for October 12 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series and Xbox One.

Another release date announced tonight is that ofAlan Wake II, a title that survival horror enthusiasts have been waiting for so long. The tormented author has decided to come out of the darkness for a brief moment before giving way to a great novelty: a new protagonist, Saga Anderson, who will have a whole campaign. The player can follow the story of the two characters in the order they want. This new work will be released on October 17 for PS5, Xbox Series and PC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Let’s Star

The Playstation Showcase 2023 edition ended in the best possible way with a long presentation of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2with the introduction of new antagonists like Kraven the Hunter, but also and above all the long, wide and overarching gameplay.

With Venom present in the cast, fans must have had to wait for the arrival of Spidey’s symbiotic suit. A dream come true with the gameplay sequence that features a milky Peter Parker and demonstrates the omnipotence of the symbiote with new techniques that are as aggressive as they are effective.

Peter Parker is back, as is his pal Miles Morales. The young weaver will also be there and, like in GTA 5, it will be possible to switch between the two characters at will. Our two protagonists each have their own skills that make the gameplay varied.

Fights, screen rides and chases… it’s all really fun, but what about the release? Insomniac Games is cautious and “only” shares a release window, which is next fall. Anyway, we can’t wait!
