News business PS5: Sony officially confirms sales and breaks its record
In a freshly sent press release, Sony reported on the sales of the PlayStation 5, confirming the solid hallway noise we had recently heard. Yes, the console is indeed what we call a “best seller”.
Not that long ago, the VG Chartz site revealed in an article that the PS5 had sold 10 million copies : an impressive number, but one that was not official. However, Sony has just clarified the situation through a press release. This confirms this amazing score.
Since the machine was launched in November last year Ten million PlayStation 5s have therefore found buyers : that in fact the fastest-selling console in Sony history, and then broke the PS4 record, which it took 39 weeks to achieve (up from 35 for the PS5). Jim Ryan, Head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, says:
While the PS5 has reached more homes faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work to do as the demand for the PS5 continues to outpace supply. I want players to know that improving inventory levels remains a top priority for YOU, even though we continue to face unique challenges around the world that affect our industry and many others.
The Japanese company can therefore rub their hands together and consider a bright future: As a reminder, its CEO Kenichiro Yoshida shared colossal ambitions with him the goal of selling more than 22.6 million copies in one year : In 1998 the PS5 will be able to dethrone the scores of the first PlayStation.
