But Sony also noted that it plans to release a variable refresh rate (VRR) feature for the PlayStation 5 “in the next few months.”
“Gameplay on many PS5 games feels smoother because scenes render instantly, graphics look sharper, and input lag is reduced,” Sony explained in a post on the PlayStation Blog. “Previously released PS5 games can Fully optimized for VRR through game patches, future games may include VRR support at launch.”
So, in a nutshell, VRR is basically an adaptive feature designed to make your gaming sessions look and feel better: it enhances the general overall graphics output, reducing visual artifacts, screen tearing, and framing rhythm problem. This will apply to all games on the system – even if specific games don’t officially support VRR.
“This feature may improve video quality in some games. If this causes any unexpected visual effects, you can always turn this option off,” Sony continued.
There’s no official release date for the VRR update, just a vague “months ahead” outlook from Sony.
In today’s update, the Game Base UI on the Remote Play app has been upgraded with “easier access to friends, parties, and messaging features for a PS5-consistent player experience.” You can now also use the voice command feature (English only) ) to open games, apps, and settings, and UI revisions address issues like trophy cards.
