In today's PS5 announcement, it was announced that the PS5 will support the top 100 PS4 games at launch.
The announcement was made by Mark Cerny, chief system architect of PS5, and details the hardware features of the upcoming game console. However, in addition to all the discussions on teraflops, Cerny also discusses backward compatibility.
According to Cerny, the top 100 PS4 games "ranked by game time" will be played on the PS5 system at launch. Well, most of the time, this is the case. For now, "almost" all these games are ready to run on the PS5.
Cerny noted that the reason why only "almost" all games are available at launch is largely due to the functional differences between PS4 and PS5. Because the PS5 is much more powerful than its predecessor, the PS5 currently runs too fast to run certain older games, which means developers will need to adjust their games to make them compatible with newer hardware.
Cerny explained, "Some game code can't handle it." "Tests must be conducted on a title-by-title basis."
In any case, it seems that a large part of the most played PS4 games are already available and will be included in the PS5 library when released.
