You may have seen special Spicy Ramen Emblem in Destiny 2 Tour online this week, but don’t buy from speculators on social media-it will be free next month.
Spicy ramen has become a thing in the Destiny 2 community, and you may remember the Destiny Cade 6 impromptu memorial temple outside E3 2018. Tribute to Cayde-6, voiced by Nathan Fillion, who was hit by Uldren Sov bullets and died in the game.
As it is about to join the game, Dataminers launched a special Spicy Ramen logo, and-as you would expect-started charging enthusiastic users who want to get it in advance.
Bungie’s communications team was not satisfied with this.
“Don’t buy spicy ramen coupon signs,” Write Bungie Community Manager dmg04“This is a free gift we give you on Bungie Day.”
Bungie Day is July 7th, with reference to the studio’s long-running 7-based images. dmg04 followed up the entry of the project—which must be announced earlier than the studio’s plan—to convey information to data miners about their impact on the game.
“Data miners-please stop disrupting content, whether it’s stories or badge codes. I know it will be exciting to be the first to have cool information, but please respect the fun.”
Data mining is often overlooked by studios; it does happen and has become a very common part of the fan circle around games as a service (for example, you usually hear Fortnite news before anywhere else).
But for developers, should they actively speak to prevent players from being defrauded of money for free items? This is unprecedented for Destiny 2, and you can see that the studio really hopes it will not happen again.
