If you want your PlayStation VR games to be compatible with PlayStation VR2, we regret to report that this is not the case for you.

Sony has confirmed that PSVR games will not be playable on PSVR2.

The news comes from a recent PlayStation podcast in which Sony’s SVP of Platform Experience Hideaki Nishino had bad news (thanks Gematsu).

According to Nishino, since Sony designed the PSVR2 to be a “true next-generation virtual reality experience,” the headset has more advanced features than previous iterations. Because of this, developing games for PSVR2 relatively requires a “different approach”.

These more advanced features include 4K HDR visuals, new controllers, up to 120fps, dual 2000 x 2040 OLED displays, 110-degree field of view, Fresnel lens, see-through capabilities, broadcast options, custom game zone settings, VR mode and Movie Mode, and more.

Sony announced in August that we expect the PlayStation VR2 to be released in early 2023.
