The long-running battle royale PUBG: Battlegrounds will also be noticeably improved in the new year 2024. A roadmap that has now been published reveals Krafton’s plans for the coming months – including a new engine.
Krafton has specified and explained in detail the plans for the continued successful battle royale game PUBG: Battlegrounds for the current year. According to their own statements, the aim is to “take the live service game to a new level” – and this should be achieved not only with new gameplay experiences, but also with technical innovations in the form of an engine change.
First of all, destructible environments should bring a new dynamic level to the game, which will also enable fresh strategies and tactics. You will soon be able to deliberately destroy parts of buildings or set up defensive barriers to gain advantages. These new features will be introduced in the April update, after which there will be further expansions.
In terms of gameplay, there will be fresh gunplay updates every two months to offer you a greater variety of choices. The so-called Gunpaly Labs in the arcade serve as a platform to test balance adjustments and collect feedback; Only then are these implemented in the main game – or not. Survival-focused items for more dynamic actions, dedicated modes for more casual play, and more are also planned.
Technically speaking, PUBG: Battlegrounds is moving to Unreal Engine 5; At the same time, preparations are also being made for User Generated Content (UGC), i.e. content created and made available by players. There will also be new content in the course of further seasons, as well as new collaborations around fresh skins and new vehicle brands that are also inspired by other IPs. Progressive weapon skins are also planned.
Rounding out the roadmap of matchmaking improvements are a refinement of the MMR system, revisions to Ranked Mode to strengthen the connection between normal matches, ranked matches and esports, and anti-cheat improvements. The anti-cheat measures will therefore be intensified and the focus will be expanded beyond ranked matches to normal games and all game modes. Deep learning technologies will be actively used here in the future to demonstrate greater efficiency in exposing cheaters.
