game news Punk, blood and dopamine for this action video game that will kickstart your summer!
If we’re used to Metroidvania often being set in a universe steeped in dark fantasy, Cookie Cutter calls us to order with a dazzling artistic direction and swirling execution.
A metroidvania that stands in contrast to the genre
Metroidvania has been an essential video game genre since its inception, and it doesn’t seem to be losing momentum. That’s definitely what we can believe thanks to this Summer Game Fest that doesn’t stop putting it on stage. Alongside Blasphemous II, which was dated two days ago, it was The Spirit of the Samurai that acted as the highlight of the show during this Saturday’s Future Game Show. Before him, it was The Last Faith who announced his exit before making way for Cookie Cutter. This is an energetic Metroidvania with an atypical storyline:
In a cold, dark lab hidden beneath the surface of the infamous megastructure, mechanic Raz searches for his missing friend, Doctor Shinji Fallon, but instead finds a ruined lab and a nearly destroyed android awakening from a life-support sleep.
This android is Cherry. A punk rock created precisely by Doctor Shinji Fallon. She develops feelings for her and her blood boils when she learns that she has been kidnapped.
An android armed to the teeth
Beyond its atypical plot, “Cookie Cutter” also st ands out for its careful artistic direction and the energy it exudes. Cherry is particularly enthusiastic about the idea of finding her loved one and thanks to the mechanic Raz, it’s good advice not to get in her way: chainsaw, guitar, plasma guns or even bicycles… The arsenal of the Android look in particular varied and sharp. There is no doubt that his adventure will bring other equally effective tools in his way.
Anyway, Cookie Cutter can be such a super charged and light game at the same time, perfect for adding sparkle to your life. A good way to also prepare for the rains of Metroidvania that should arrive in the coming months, since Cookie Cutter will be available on PC via the Steam platform this summer.
