QuakeCon 2020 is the last major video game fair to hang the canceled poster due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic that keeps most countries in the world on edge. While Gamescom 2020 goes digital, given the uncertainty of knowing what will happen in August (when the fair would be held), Bethesda and ID Software have decided to cancel the event to ensure the health of workers and visitors.
"With all the logistical challenges and uncertainties we are currently facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's QuakeCon," said ID Software and Bethesda Softworks in a release. «The health and safety of our employees, volunteers, suppliers, sponsors and players will always be our top priority. And right now it feels bad to talk about a meeting when the meeting is the last thing any of us should be doing right now.
"While we don't know what the state of the pandemic will be this August, we do know that it will not be possible to complete the work and planning with partners, suppliers, volunteers and others that will be necessary to make QuakeCon a success." Despite the cancellation of the fair, its organizers promise to explore other ways to celebrate the QuakeCon spirit next August.
QuakeCon is another great summer date for video game lovers where all kinds of players gather, beyond Quake lovers, and news about Bethesda's biggest releases taking place. This year it will close its doors due to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
