QuakeCon is considered a veteran of events within the games industry – and is returning again this year. Unfortunately, there will only be a digital edition again.
The corona pandemic has changed a lot in the games industry. Above all, many long-standing events are now only taking place digitally or – like E3 2022 – are even canceled completely. QuakeCon may be returning in 2022, but it will be digital-only for the third straight year.
Bethesda announced digital QuakeCon 2022 tonight for August 18-20, 2022. One is disappointed that one cannot return to the classic venue in Dallas this year. Background: At present, the general situation with regard to the pandemic is simply too uncertain to be able to plan sensibly.
“An event of this size required months of planning and in this case we had to make decisions when there was still too much uncertainty to commit to a successfully executed QuakeCon on site,” the organizers say.
The focus is already on setting up an exciting streaming program. In addition, there will be online meetings, giveaways, charity opportunities and more; Details are to follow in June.
Furthermore, it is currently the firm plan to finally return to the classic format on site in the new year 2023. According to Bethesda’s taste, there should no longer be a fourth purely virtual QuakeCon.
