quarry Director Will Byles recently explained how the upcoming machete-inspired horror game’s death rewind mechanics will work.
if you are playing a oversized game In games, you may expect one (usually more) character to die in your game. Quarry will be no different, but speaking to SegmentNext last week (April 28) Byles explained a new mechanic that will be available in-game once players beat the game, which will allow them to Undo the selected number of deaths.
“Death Rewind is a retry mechanic that unlocks after you complete the story or purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game,” explains Byles. “You’re basically granted three ‘lives’ that allow you to avoid character death at the cost of using one of those lives. You’ll be taken back to the moment you made the crucial choice that led to your character’s death, so you can do different options.”
While there’s a bit of uncertainty about a useful mechanic from the first playthrough, Byles also explained that The Quarry takes about 10 hours to play through, depending on the player. “The game is also designed to be highly replayable, as we think many people will want to take different paths and make different choices. If you want to experience every permutation of The Quarry’s story, you’ll find yourself in Play for a long time!”
Byles also recently talked about branching narratives in the game, saying that it will have 186 different endings for players to experience, which really underscores the replayability as a whole.
The Quarry debuted in March, separate from Supermassive Games’ Dark Pictures Anthology. It’s a spiritual successor to “Until Dawn” and has a star-studded cast of David Arquette (Scream), Smith Justice (Jurassic World) and Brenda Song (Babyface).
