Supermassive Games studio director Will Byles revealed in an interview with VGC that the studio’s next big horror game is already in development.
Supermassive Games was originally known for Until Dawn, and even won a BAFTA award for its narrative-driven hack and slash game. Then there’s The Dark Pictures Anthology, a series of smaller episodic horror stories for players to start.
The closest, however, is a quarry. Another full-fledged teen killer in the form of a movie game, well worth the 4/5 we gave in our review.
Talking about what’s next for the studio — excluding the upcoming Dark Pictures Anthology, the devil in me — Will Byles shared with VGC that the team has already started working on the studio’s next big game.
“I really can’t tell you much, but we’ve started. Again, it’s the same horror genre, and we’re sticking to that. It’s about the size of a quarry…and I can say about it, but not Too many leaks.”
Byles continued, “Possibly, we might be kind of like… getting limited.”
“The Dark Pictures explores hundreds of variations of the horror genre. What we’re seeing now, I can’t tell you exactly what it is, it’s a bit off that standard, but it’s still a very classic horror film.”
While we’ll have to wait for any further details on what Till Dawn and the Quarry’s next spiritual successor might be, Byles’ comments do hint at a slightly different oversized formula from the current charming but terrifying teenage killer. What do you expect this to bring?
Additionally, when the VGC asked how long fans would wait for the next game, Byles suggested that the turnaround time should be much shorter than the seven-year wait between dawn and the quarry. “It’s going to be 2025, or maybe 2026,” Byers shared.
If you can’t wait until 2025 or 2026 to fix Supermassive Games, the newest addition to The Dark Pictures Anthology – The Devil in My Mind – is on the way, coming out this November 18th. In a recent conversation with game director Tom Heaton, we learned more about what fans should expect from the game.
