“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” is based on a true love story. However, the “Bridgerton” spin-off changes this in some crucial facts.
- The Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is based on the true love story of Princess Sophie Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and King George III.
- However, in order to deepen the romance between the two characters, the story between the two was altered.
- This gives both of them more time to get to know each other, which in reality they didn’t have.
The upcoming Bridgerton spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, will tell the love story of Queen Charlotte and her husband King George. However, unlike the other romances in the Netflix series, this story is completely real. George and Charlotte ruled the Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Like the first two seasons of “Bridgerton,” the spin-off will once again melt away with romance. But real life is not always so rosy. Therefore, Netflix has to change some of Charlotte and George’s story so that the plot fits into the romanticized series world.
The “Bridgerton” spin-off gives Charlotte and George more time to love
A big change that “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” will allow itself is the time that Charlotte and George get to know each other. Even before their marriage, they will get closer to each other and maybe even develop their first romantic feelings for each other. In reality, they didn’t have that option.
King George had to marry and Charlotte, because of her noble origins, seemed suitable for marriage. When the marriage agreement was officially reached, George’s vassals traveled to Germany with the contract. When this was signed, George’s new queen traveled to Britain. Arrived in London, they had their wedding ceremony with their family and some guests. It was there that Charlotte met her husband for the first time.
It’s highly unlikely that the series will do exactly that. The first trailer for the new “Bridgerton” series showed how Charlotte and George got to know each other before their marriage. Charlotte is already at the British court, but not yet bound. The couple will have many more opportunities to get to know and love each other before marriage.
Key figures from Charlotte and George’s marriage will also appear in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
In the nobility, it used to be common for an adviser to choose a wife, not the king. In real life, when George decided to marry Charlotte, he had an entourage of court servants to consult with. Above all, the British diplomat and governor of George, Earl Simon Harcourt.
Charlotte’s marriage was primarily promoted by her brother Duke Adolf Friedrich IV. It was also the two representatives who signed the marriage contract. Throughout, they accompanied the couple and negotiated on their behalf.
Also in “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” Simon and Adolf will advise the royal couple. So far, however, little is known about her role in the series. However, by including the two characters, the series will gain some realism and include an important aspect of the true story.
Charlotte and George’s romance stays in England
A significant part of the true love story between George and Charlotte took place in reality at sea between Germany and England. That probably won’t be the case in the series. The journey was long and mostly uneventful, not exactly something viewers want to see.
At most, the stormy voyage from Charlotte to England would be interesting for “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story”, because on this the ship was caught in three storms. However, the German princess will leave her homeland right at the beginning of the series and will spend most of her time in England.
What differences await us compared to the real love story of Charlotte and George can be seen on Netflix on May 4, 2023.
