It's time to publish new content for our "Hidden Independent Gems" feature. We bring you fresh independent games that will make you excited every week.
Many large-scale games this year will either be postponed or begin to have a release target by the end of 2020. Over the past few weeks, we have opened up to smaller games, and we hope to showcase such games in this feature.
Of course, this pandemic obviously disrupted the Indians ’schedule, but from now until summer, there are still many people coming. So, without further ado, let us begin.
Popular Indie Game Week on April 13
Landlord's Super
Minskworks is the developer of Jalopy's slow road trip adventure and has now returned to a new project. The landlord ’s super is essentially a construction simulator where you can repair dilapidated houses to convince people to move in.
The landlord ’s super space occupies the same space as Jalopy. It is both a mechanically intensive practical game and a quiet comment on the creator ’s history, culture and personal emotions.
This game took place in England in the 1980s. You are a working class construction worker. He borrowed money to buy tools and supplies and spent a lot of time in construction work. After you finish the daily work of the day, you can freely visit a bar and chat with the game characters to understand the problems of the day. Its appearance is similar to that of Jalopy; it blurs the image and makes the photo look faded, which is ideal for tones and settings required by Minskworks.
The super version of the landlord will be available on Steam on April 30. Click the link to the wish list.
Signs of sojourners
What if the experience we gain and the relationship we build are determined by an emotional deck? This is what the signs of the sojourner try to answer, and this is the basis of the game.
In the logo of the sojourner, you can travel around the world in a station wagon, make new friends, and find something for sale in the mother ’s shop. Every contact with the game character will unfold in the card game. Empathy, cynicism, logic and other emotions all appear in the form of symbols. You will carefully match them to express your wisdom or understand their views.
The more you encounter during the trip, the more cards you get, but when you learn from these characters, you must also leave them something you know. This is one of the most interesting translations of human communication and connection with game mechanics that I have ever seen. It happens in a world that will change forever due to climate change, but it is not desolate to no color. Hand-painted artwork gives a warm, mellow appearance.
The Sojourner logo will be released on Steam on May 14, and the Switch version will be released later this year.
Games to play this weekend
Receiver 2
Like its predecessor, the tone of Receiver 2 is so simple, to my surprise no one can copy it. The protagonist in Receiver is actually your weapon. It does n’t matter who owns it, what matters is how stupid you are to manipulate it when the game pulls you tight.
The receiver simulates every component of the gun in some way, which will undoubtedly make the Talkov developers escape with some jealousy. Just like every moving part of a weapon works, when the gun is jammed, you also have to follow a procedure to load, unload and clean the gun.
The receiver treats the spray gun like a precision instrument, not an extension of power. It is partly achieved by mapping different functions to keyboard and mouse input. Reloading is the button operation in most games, here it is its own operation. First-person shooting is secondary. Full control of the weapon's handling process allows you to look at the gun from different angles.
The original is a bit awkward, and its visual effect has never been as heavy as the mechanic conveyed. The sequel has made great improvements in these areas, and the content of the story has been expanded, and the connection with the original battle room is very easy.
Receiver 2 was released on Steam this week, and will receive a 10% discount ($ 18) before Tuesday.
Folding
Folded apart tells the story of long distance relationships, represented by vignettes made of folded paper. This forms the core mechanism of the game, which mainly involves the puzzles that arise around the idea of folding the various parts of the screen.
You can choose between different couples, and each couple provides a narrative and mechanical perspective on the game puzzle. Although this game was created before our current crisis, the game is perfect. Since many people in the real world are required to maintain personal and professional relationships remotely, we hope to solve this problem together.
Misunderstanding, existence and self-evident are all things that people have to contend with in their lives, as do game characters. Starting today, Steam and Switch and Apple Arcade (if you are a member) will provide Fold Apart. It supports everything from iPhone to Apple TV.
