With the SoundHound app and its offshoot Midomi, you can find out songs with a short audio recording. This is how the music recognition service works.
The music recognition service SoundHound helps you with the app of the same name Recognize songs. You can also use SoundHound on your PC under the name Midomi.
SoundHound works similarly to Shazam or other music recognition apps. You record a small sound snippet with the microphone and the app creates a sound profile for it, which is compared with data in an online database.
In addition to melodies and tone sequences, the app also takes rhythm and specific instruments into account. In addition to recorded original songs, the SoundHound algorithm can also recognize songs that you have hummed or sung yourself.
You can use SoundHound on any computer with a microphone via the Midomi web app instead of your smartphone. Midomi uses exactly the same technology and only differs by name.
The following sections show how you can use SoundHound and Midomi to recognize songs.
To use SoundHound’s song recognition, you can also use the service without an app on any PC via the Midomi web app with a web browser.
