Arkane’s Director shed some light on how Redfall handles player progression in cooperative multiplayer. Accordingly, the progress is only saved on the host.
In case you were wondering how Redfall will handle game progression in cooperative multiplayer, we now have the answer for you. Arkane Studios Austin has clarified that during a game session only the host will actually progress through the story, much like Borderlands for example.
In conversation with IGN however, was differentiated. Director Harvey Smith clarified that the restriction relates to story and other missions. You may keep the equipment you receive in matches with friends, as well as the character experience points you collect. In the meantime, the possibility of saving progress for all players was experimented with, but the system might have produced confusing results.

Redfall features four characters, each with their own unique abilities and weapons. However, once you have decided on one of these heroes in the fight against the vampires, you must keep him for the duration of this save.
