We’ve just got a fresh update from Larian regarding Baldur’s Gate 3’s next big update, Patch 7, which is set to arrive in September. It looks like things are still on track, with the developer having revealed more of the content it will include or facilitate, and announcing that PC players can now sign up for a chance to test the game via closed beta.
Thanks to previous community updates, we already knew that the patch would bring a bunch of additional evil endings and the official modding tools people have been waiting for.

But if you think that means there’s nothing left to talk about and tease about Larian in Community Update 28, you’d be wrong. Let’s start with what you can do right now, shall we?
“We mentioned in Community Update 26 that we’d be rolling out additional internal playtests, but we also want to test Patch 7 at scale, using a variety of different systems and save files – this is where we’d like your help,” Larian wrote, outlining that Steam players can now sign up via BG3’s store page for a chance to take part in a closed beta for this purpose, which will begin on July 22.
Now, onto the trailer. Headlining the trailer is the new “dynamic split-screen mode,” which will allow co-op players to merge their displays together via a button in the HUD and gameplay settings when they’re close enough. Meanwhile, Honor Mode has become a lot tougher thanks to some extra Legendary moves and spells for enemies like Malus Thorm and Dror Ragzlin. Along with the new ending for Dark Impulse and Origin characters, a host of bug fixes are also on the way for Dark Impulse and Origin characters, along with some improvements to the often-criticized party chat.

In a community update, Larian also asked several modders who participated in the closed alpha test of the tool to chat about what they’ve been working on recently, and several of them are making some mods centered around modifying the color of Dragonborn scales, etc.
“Patch 7 will not be the final update for Baldur’s Gate 3,” the studio wrote at the end of the update. “We have several more planned, including many community-requested features like cross-platform play and a photo mode to capture and share your memorable moments. We are also working on many other improvements, from gameplay tweaks and quality of life improvements to bug fixes and performance optimizations.”
If you want to read more BG3-related material while you wait to find out whether or not it’s entered closed beta, why not read our recent interview with a modder who added an entire roguelike mode to the game, especially considering we asked what they thought these official tools might bring to the game’s modding scene.
