At gamescom in Cologne, all sorts of new games were announced again this year, including many smaller gems that easily get lost among the big AAA blockbusters like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Star Wars: Outlaws or Dune: Awakening. One such indie gem that you definitely shouldn’t miss is the wacky action roguelike Reignbreaker. In Reignbreaker, you slip into the skin of Clef, a former child soldier who at some point turned against the system and joined the rebellion. She tries to break into the queen’s bastion, where she hoards her most valuable treasures. To do this, Clef swings various spears that also function as lock picks. On her way to the heart of the bastion, she repeatedly encounters a few friends like rats and many enemies – often in the form of machines. The whole thing is rounded off with a groovy punk and metal soundtrack. The game is being developed by the Europe studio Fizbin, who you may know from point-and-click adventures such as The Inner World or the humorous action game Say No! More. There is no final release date yet, but those interested can already put Reignbreaker on their Steam wishlist.
