Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 3080 is a very powerful graphics card. RTX 3080 has 10.0 GB of VRAM, but a model with 20.0 GB is to appear soon.
Crucial point video memory: A small downer, however, is the amount of built-in video memory of 10.0 GB. It could prove to be a bottleneck every now and then, especially with 4K resolution and real-time ray tracing.
Even before the official announcement of the new Geforce graphics cards based on the Ampere architecture, it was considered certain that a variant with 20.0 GB would appear – later leaks confirmed this. Now there is also an assumed time frame for the release.
If you want to upgrade your PC by then, we recommend taking a look at our upgrade guide for the RTX 3080:
Geforce RTX 3080 Upgrade Guide: You need this hardware
RTX 3080 20 GB for Christmas business?
The specifications mentioned by Videocardz:
- GPU: GA102-200
- Transistors: 28.3 billion
- CUDA-Recheneinheiten: 8.704
- Tensorkerne: 272
- Raytracing-Kerne: 68
- VRAM: 20,0 GByte GDDR6X
- Memory bus: 320-Bit
It is not known exactly where the information came from. However, Videocardz’s sources have proven to be reliable very often.
Whether a release in December will go smoothly is another matter. In any case, Nvidia itself expects bottlenecks until the end of the year:

RTX 3070 16 GB also for Christmas?
The RTX 3080 with 20 GByte – and apparently not with a “Ti” or “Super” in its name – is not supposed to be the only Geforce accelerator to be released in December. According to Videocardz, the 16 GB version of the RTX 3070
Just like the RTX 3080, however, not as “T” i or “Super”, but only as “RTX 3070 16 GB”, which therefore does not differ from the normal RTX 3070 in terms of core number.
The specifications mentioned by Videocardz:
- GPU: GA104-300
- Transistors: 17.4 billion
- CUDA-Recheneinheiten: 5.888
- Tensorkerne: 184
- Raytracing-Kerne: 46
- VRAM: 16,0 GByte GDDR6
- Memory bus: 256-Bit
However, Videocardz does not yet have any information on the prices of the RTX 3080 with 20 GB and RTX 3070 with 16 GB. The amount of video memory installed should, however, cause a decent price premium.
With the new models, Nvidia should also want to provide an answer to the Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards from AMD expected in November. You probably set a maximum of 16.0 GB of VRAM.
