The Alan Wake makers of Remedy Entertainment are not only working on the now confirmed sequel Alan Wake 2, a free-to-play title with another heavyweight in the industry is also in the works.
In an announcement to investors, Remedy announced a new partnership with Tencent Games. This is the well-known publishing giant from China, with whom the Alan Wake makers now want to develop a co-op shooter. This is currently called Vanguard and is to rely on a free-to-play model.
The Remedy IP is to be localized for the Asian markets via Tencent, and Remedy himself is responsible for the release of the Games-as-Service title. According to Remedy CEO Tero Virtala, it will be the first such title with such a business model.
The aim is to deliver “something new and exciting in the cooperative multiplayer area” with the game, it continues. At the same time, you want to play out your own established, narrative strengths. The partnership with Tencent is designed, however, for the long term, in order to support the “ambitious plans” for the support of Vanguard accordingly.
The release is planned for PC and consoles, but further details on the setting or the release period are not yet available. Even a mobile version would be conceivable, which is then to be developed by Tencent. Technically, the Unreal Engine from Epic Games is used.
