I’m not really sure why, but spoof movies were very popular in the 2000s. Some are more subtle and more about containing parody within the film rather than outright imitation, others are spins on popular genres, and then you have films like Scary Movie that are entirely dedicated to dismantling horror tropes. The p**s. The first horror film was wildly popular and spawned several sequels, although it received mixed reviews from critics. The parodies’ popularity has waned over the years, with Scary Movie 5 being the final film in the series in 2013 – but now the series’ original creators, the Wayans Brothers, have announced they’ll be teaming up again to make Scary Movie Movie 5″. Brothers Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenan Ivory Wayans produced the first two films together but have not appeared in any of the films since the second. Now, the trio is working on a new film with Miramax, and shared a statement with Deadline, which read: “We are beyond excited to be a part of a new horror film and to be working together again. This is a series we remember People are laughing in the aisles and hoping to see that again, and we look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at New Miramax to bring those laughs to the theaters where they belong. A double reunion.”

Horror movies have clearly changed a lot in the little over two years since the first one was released, and even since the fifth one was released, horror has shifted more towards stories about themes like mental health and inner demons –Think of a movie like “The Babadook,” and this would definitely fit somewhere in “Scary Movie 6.” Part 6 has no time limit, so you just have to stay alert for now.
