Xiaomi has published a short on YouTube in which the manufacturer clears up a myth. Does toothpaste help against scratches on cell phone displays?
- Scratches on the display are annoying, but can never be completely avoided.
- Many home remedies promise a remedy, such as toothpaste.
- Xiaomi is now showing why this doesn’t work.
Scratches on the cell phone display are annoying. As with any other ailment, there are many home remedies for it on the web. One of them says that polishing with toothpaste should help. Xiaomi has addressed this myth and shows in a video that toothpaste can actually make the problem worse.
Unsurprisingly, the toothpaste can neither rub away nor fill in the scratches, as is often claimed. Even worse: the microparticles and the chemical properties of the paste permanently damage the grease-repellent coating of the display – a feast for bacteria.
You can do that
The best prevention is, of course, as with teeth, not to allow damage to occur in the first place. For the mobile phone this means: use a protective film and pay attention to the Gorilla Glass type. If your smartphone is already too badly scratched for this, you should perhaps think about changing the display or getting a new smartphone.
In the linked instructions we will tell you how you can protect your cell phone better and clean your smartphone better and without scratches.
