Anyone who would like to try out SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service without obligation now has the opportunity to do so. There are additional costs to the monthly hardware costs.
- SpaceX now rents the Starlink hardware for a monthly price of 15 dollars.
- The one-off purchase of the hardware otherwise costs 300 dollars.
- However, an Internet tariff is not included in the monthly subscription fee.
SpaceX’s Starlink enables Internet access in places where there is actually no Internet. This is not only interesting for people who live in remote regions or crisis areas. Motorhome or air travelers can also use the service
Up until now, it was necessary to purchase the appropriate hardware, which has a one-off cost of at least 300 dollars. SpaceX is now also offering a rental option for a monthly payment of 15 dollars.
In addition to the 15 dollars for the hardware, there are at least 80 dollars for the actual Internet access, resulting in total monthly costs of 95 dollars. Both the hardware subscription and the tariff can be canceled on a monthly basis.
However, there are a few limitations that the provider in its FAQ explained in more detail. For example, business use is excluded. The system must also be permanently installed and may not be changed during the rental period. Note: The FAQ states that the rental option is only valid for Great Britain so far. We were also able to conclude a rental contract for Hamburg on a trial basis and received a corresponding message from SpaceX.
