Gaming News Resident Evil 4: Darker, more exciting, but still solid, the remake adds to the excitement
Without a doubt, Resident Evil 4 is one of the most awaited games of the beginning of 2023: a remake that frankly looks promising and if you doubt it, perhaps this new trailer will know how to tell you correctly.
If nothing is left to biological risk
The least we can say is that Capcom is starting to reach a certain level of expertise when it comes to remakes, and the Resident Evil saga has always been the flagship: the very first installment already benefited from a successful revamp on Nintendo GameCube , early 2000s! The way of working finally became a real trend at the end of the last generation, with Resident Evil 2 also passing billiards to return in very good shape in 2019 … then Resident Evil 3, in 2020.
Resident Evil 4 was therefore the logical continuation of the operation and yet from the start we wondered if the original title really deserved such a reinterpretation. After all, the 2005 title is a true video game pillar that’s still perfectly playable today!
But Capcom probably took the time to hatch a likely sequel to Resident Evil Village, and eventually RE4 also needed a nice makeover too. The latter can be appreciated more than ever in this new trailer that can be found at the beginning of the article in our video player broadcast last night as part of the State of Play.

From what we can see, Resident Evil 4 remake looks particularly mastered. The gameplay can be seen precisely condensed: the infiltration has taken a clear gap and the frontal fights as well, Leon now has several possibilities to dodge, fight and shoot his opponents that he didn’t have before. We’re thinking in particular of the knife (which will now be durable) with possible on-the-fly finishing moves once the enemy is down. You can also aim/shoot while moving.
It is recalled that Capcom had indicated that Ashley, the daughter of the President of the United States, whom he must save precisely in this adventure, would also be less restrictive than in the base game. For example, Leon can stab an enemy while kidnapping them against their will, which will be a game changer in certain situations.
In terms of artistic direction, Resident Evil 4 looks intentionally darker, more oppressive: the enemies’ chara design looks even more visceral, even more…terrifying. Will the title still be creepy? Not so sure as the action should predominate, but the atmosphere looks more faithful than ever to the franchise. We can probably thank the RE Engine, Capcom’s proprietary engine, which has been devilishly mastered by its developers.
Last detail: the legendary Mercenaries mode will actually appear, but in the form of a DLC, after the game’s release. This one will be free, and by the way, let’s take this opportunity to remind you that a PSVR2 mode is planned for PlayStation 4, the development of which has just begun.
Resident Evil 4 will be released on PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series on March 24th, a month from now.
