Resident Evil 4 Remake’s animated spinoff gets second episode

While we’re all gearing up for Friday’s Resident Evil 4 Remake launch, Capcom is preparing us for a series of short, minute-long anime episodes promoting the game. Today, we have a chance to see the second episode!

The show’s first episode — which created “Leon and the Mysterious Village” — debuted only a few days ago. The episode shows a very confused Leon descending to the village, and later, after his death, ascends to the stars with a group of Colmillos. It’s weird, but honestly, very wholesome.

Today, Capcom released the show’s second episode on YouTube, animated by hit studio Nippon Animation. The episode is only 54 seconds long and is titled “A Promise Between the Two,” which perfectly sums up my thoughts on the game.

Leon and Ashley pledge to support each other, and we witness Ashley being pulled away by various enemies while screaming “HELP!” Each time, Leon saves her and slowly finds himself beaten and bandaged stand up.

Sure enough, it was El Gigante who took the final blow, and Leon once again took to the stars with a group of cute Colmillos, while the screen read “YOU ARE DEAD”.

It’s nice to see short animated episodes that capture how the community feels about the game; the first episode perfectly captures Leon’s himbo character, and this one captures fan fatigue over Ashley’s repeated abductions. They put on a fantastic and whimsical take on RE4’s story, and I sincerely hope we get to see another episode or two of this before or during the game’s release!

What do you think of Lyon and the mysterious village? I wanted to echo Ramounskee’s comment on the YouTube video, “Whoever made this video felt the pain of protecting Ashley on a spiritual level.” Damn they did.
