Resident Evil 8: Village set a remarkable record for the series when it was released on Steam: on May 7th they played loud Steam Charts first time over 100,000 fans at the same time an offshoot of the series – and all that on the PC alone, not including console versions. Switched in parallel over 600,000 spectators

Village breaks an important record on Steam
After the critics, the players have now also formed their opinion on the eighth part over the release weekend. We collect the first impressions from the Steam Reviews:
»4 + 7 = 8«: This is what players say about Resident Evil 8
Many of the test ratings (including ours) are in the range between 80 and 90. On Steam, Resident Evil: Village is equally well received in the reviews: The approximately 8,000 user reviews fall with a share of 93 percent of benevolent votes “very positive”.
Many fans praise the fact that the new offshoot combines the strengths of Part 7 and the series favorite Resident Evil 4 and comment on a mathematically incorrect but appropriate »4 + 7 = 8«. For some, part 8 strikes the optimal balance of eerie horror passages and action. In addition, the detailed graphics and dense soundscape stand out positively for many.
The small field of view, which makes orientation difficult from the first-person perspective, receives criticism. Automatic aiming also seems to make urgently needed headshots more difficult, which is why some players advise deactivating it. Gun noises, hit feedback and animations leave a lot to be desired for some. Occasionally there are also complaints about crashes and the “inappropriate fantasy scenario”. Quotes from the Steam reviews: That’s what players love and hate about Resi 8
TheGamingGalaxie also highlights the level design positively in his review after just under 8 hours:
“With the level designs, the developers have again dared to do something that I haven’t personally seen in any Resident Evil before. Basically, there is something for everyone in this game. So there are the vampires whose story is more likely Action is designed, but less on horror and shock elements.
Another level, on the other hand, has really creepy elements in it, which almost make your blood run cold and the psychological horror comes to the fore a little here. In and of itself you are only occupied 1 – 1 1/2 hours in almost every level, but you can say that there is something for every horror genre fan – slasher, psychological horror and more fantasy horror. ”
archanea in turn, as a long-time fan, criticizes the game for feeling like a patchwork quilt of new and old ideas and not like a full-fledged successor:
“It is clear that Resident Evil Village is intended as a kind of spiritual successor to Resident Evil 4, it hits exactly in the notch that many Resident Evil fans somehow cannot get enough of. However, it is not Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil Village feels like it’s having a massive identity crisis and is following a path that has become very typical of Capcom games. We have a strong, promising beginning that somehow evolves into a silly mishmash that leaves a strange void in you at the end of the adventure.
Survival Horror is dead and Resident Evil Village certainly didn’t kill it, but neither does it make any effort to revive the genre. The days when you strategically left opponents alive to save resources or hung on the edge of a chair because you couldn’t wait to see what’s next are over.
There is no pressure in this game. You are a powerhouse with an endless supply of resources, weapon upgrades and apparently indestructible forearms that stop attacking enemies with ease. You can only experience the touch of an adrenaline rush in this game in the forced chase sequences, which, however, also leave a lot to be desired. There is no danger in this game. ”
shamug1a Above all, I would have wished for more interesting characters and less horror clichés:
“My main problem is with the characters. Capcom did a great job designing Lady Dimitrescu, combining menacing horror with an erotic look. But with every respect for the writers and designers at Capcom – this is really the only interesting character in the whole game. […]
In addition, RE8 is full of horror clichés. Bad guys hold monologues instead of killing the protagonist when they get the chance, constant evil, unnecessary laughter. The Baker family was more unique than a terrifying family of sadists and murderers with many memorable interactions (the family dinner as a prime example) that reminded me of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre. ”
DeathClutch is enthusiastic about it because Village finds the perfect mix of puzzles, story and action gameplay for him:
“Technically, I had absolutely no problems with my 3090 and the Ryzen 95950X in terms of performance, unlike many who complain about problems, Village looks and plays incredibly well. I always had a smooth 60 FPS at maximum settings including HDR and ray tracing in native 4K.
As far as the story and the atmosphere are concerned, Village has long been a game for me that brings the perfect balance between gamplay, story and puzzles in line, it always alternates between them and then there is a boss fight, which, by the way, was extremely successful in Village. In terms of storytelling, Village shows impressively how to keep tension perfectly from beginning to end.
Village also offers some wow effects with old friends from the Resi universe and the story turns towards the end are some of the best the series has ever had to offer. Here an unbelievably good connection is offered from the original Resident Evil to Resi 7, which then culminates in an unbelievably good finale of Resident Evil Village. ”
