I want to play Resident Evil. Where do I begin? the saga of Survival Horror of Capcom redrew the landscape of horror, action and survival in video games. Sometimes, paying homage to that popcorn cinema born in video stores, broadcast at wicked hours and propagated through VHS tapes. Others, being much more ambitious in themes and content. That’s all very well, mind you, but how many games do I have to play until I run into Lady Dimitrescu?
In iGamesNews We have prepared a very special review of Resident Evil for you with a very specific purpose: that you enjoy the saga in its entirety in an organized way. From the beginning to the most recent events. Always supporting us with the chronology, the arc of each person and what happens in the spin-offs. Leaving aside the official novels, the good, bad and even worse movies and everything that cannot be played on consoles and PCs.
All Resident Evil games in chronological order
We start by answering the three key questions when starting to order the saga: what year does each installment take place in, how many games have been published and which should I start with? From there, adding each main installment and with Capcom’s calendar of events in hand, we started the journey to the roots of Survival Horror.
Our starting point: Resident Evil 0, the first of the more than 20 video games that make up the official chronology and that leads us to that fateful summer of 1998 in which Raccoon City disappeared from the map. And be careful, adding some additional story about the zombie thing stretches to 2037.
- Resident Evil 0 (July 23 – 24, 1998)
- Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (between July 1998 and February 2003)
- Resident Evil (July 24 – 25, 1998)
- Resident Evil Outbreak (between September and October 1998)
- Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 (between September and October 1998)
- Resident Evil 2 (September 29 – 30, 1998)
- Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (September 26 – 28 and October 1, 1998)
- Resident Evil Survivor (November 1998)
- Resident Evil CODE:Veronica (December 1998)
- Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
- Resident Evil: Dead Aim (September 2002)
- Resident Evil: Revelations (2004 – 2005)
- Resident Evil 4 (Fall 2004)
- Resident Evil 5 (August of 2006 / March of 2009)
- Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2011)
- Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps (between March 2012 and 2016)
- Resident Evil 6 (between December 2012 and July 2013)
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (between July and August 2017)
- Resident Evil Village (February 8 – 10, 2021)
- Resident Evil Village – Shades of Rose (2037)
The greatest complexity when it comes to establishing a correct order is in titles such as Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles o Umbrella Corps, which encompass and expand the events of several main installments at the same time. However, and when organizing, we have taken into account their respective starting points instead of the date they end when locating them.
On the other hand, despite the fact that we have not included parallel episodes such as Separate Ways or the stories of the mercenaries, we include the epilogue of Resident Evil Village – Shadows of Rose since it is a very specific chapter for the chronology.
There are very specific titles published by Capcom that you will not find in the list above, since they conflict with both the chronology and the events before and after, such as Resident Evil Gaiden from gameboy. However, as you will see below, we have not forgotten about them.
Resident Evil through the main events
Although our first step has been to organize all deliveries, now we are going to offer them chronologically, having new parameters and distinguishing between the different periods. Something that, as you will see, allows us to include more games and that does not alter the order too much. Coffee for the very coffee lovers!

Of course, we count on the saga of Resident Evil it will not end here. And we are not going to deny it to you: that Capcom continues to have great plans after so many installments is a sign not only of success, but of knowing how to reinvent itself while maintaining the type. Sometimes through trial and error, and other times replicating the greatness of the classics.
