At Sony’s State of Play showcase in June, Capcom put out the most surprising trailers of the night, including the reveal of Resident Evil 4 (with no less than a date!), and the least surprising trailer. The latter, of course, go Resident Evil Village For PS VR2.
As a first-person horror game, Resident Evil Village was just the perfect VR conversion candidate, so it’s a bit crazy to think it took so long to announce one. Of course, in reality, Sony may have something to do with its development, with the upcoming PS VR2 headset.
During the show, we received a short trailer showing footage from the gameplay, including the famous meeting with Mrs. Dimitrescu, which really shows how well Capcom knows its audience. This looks like a full game playable in VR, which is not surprising. It will also support the PS VR2’s Sense controller.
Sadly, the trailer doesn’t offer any hints about a release date, but reports suggest the VR headset will launch sometime in early 2023, so maybe we’ll see an update by then.
Of course, Resident Evil 7 is also fully playable in VR on the original PlayStation VR headset. Although many believe it will come to PC VR later, this conversion is still exclusive to PlayStation. A VR update for Resident Evil Village will likely follow a similar path.
It’s worth noting that today’s reveal also doesn’t mention whether it’s a free update, or something players will need to pay for.
