Warning: Last spoiler warning for “Rick and Morty”, season 5, episode 8
One of the biggest questions that “Rick and Morty” viewers have in the past seasons is which Beth Smith is the real one – and which is “just” a clone. The season 4 finale brought the so-called “Space Beth” and Beth, who stayed on Earth with Summer, Jerry and Co., together for the first time. Which of the two is now a clone, however, was ultimately not revealed.
Even the genius Rick Sanchez does not have this memory, as the episode “Father-Clone Conflict” showed.
The latest “Rick and Morty” episode mentioned at the beginning puts the “Which Beth is a clone” problem on top again. The episode is based on the legendary Mindfuck movie “Forget Mine Not!” (Original title: “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”
Rick enters the consciousness of Birdperson in “Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort” in order to revive him. There he meets an earlier, younger version of himself – and this one drops the bomb …
The younger Rick explains: “You live with a version of our dead daughter.”
Beth is actually dead – that means the “Rick and Morty” reveal
This brief sentence creates a completely new situation within the world of “Rick and Morty”. One Beth is still a clone, but the other is not the “original”, but a Beth that Rick took from another dimension to replace “his” deceased Beth – in a very similar way to Rick, by the way and Morty himself shifted their lives into a new, different dimension in the season 1 episode “Rick Potion No. 9” after their actual “Earth C-137” became uninhabitable (a new dimension in which Rick and Morty had previously died ).
The ultimate Netzwelt series quiz
What else is “Peaky Blinders” star Cillian Murphy known for?
What this big revelation about Beth means for the future of “Rick and Morty” will probably be shown by the hour-long finale of season 5. This will appear on Adult Swim in the USA on September 5, 2021 and, as usual, one day later in Germany.
