If you like Long legsIf you’re a fan of Stephen King, then you might be happy to hear monkey.
You wouldn’t think something named “Monkey” would inspire any fear, but let’s be honest, monkeys are pretty scary, and this one is kind of scary. Long Legs director Osgood Perkins found great success with this horror film, which has given its distributor another horror film that did well on Kickstarter, as well as a new horror film from Steven Soderbergh. Apparently, Perkins has no intention of trying any other genres for the time being, as his next film is the aforementioned Monkey, which just released its first trailer yesterday – you can check it out below.
It’s just a short trailer with some slightly distorted circus music in the background, a toy monkey playing a snare drum, a little solo, and one of the movie’s stars, Theo James, covered in blood. There’s not a whole lot to the trailer, but it certainly sets the tone for what we can expect from the film.

Based on King’s short story of the same name, the film tells the story of twin brothers Bill and Hall, played by James, who discover their father’s old toy monkey in their childhood attic. Suddenly, people start dying, leading them to throw the monkey away – the only problem is, years later, they drift apart and the deaths start happening again, meaning they have to find a way to destroy the monkey once and for all.
The film has a strong cast, with James starring alongside Elijah Wood from The Lord of the Rings, Tatiana Maslany from She-Hulk, Laura Mennell from The Man in the High Castle, Sarah Levy from Rich and Rich, Colin O’Brien from Wonka, Rohan Campbell from Halloween 2018, and Christian Convery from Jerry Maguire. James Wan, co-creator of Saw and Insidious, will also serve as a producer.
You’ll have to wait a while before you can watch Monkey, though, as it’s currently set to be released on February 21, 2025.
