Eldon Ring There is already a wealth of content. From its expansive open world, which constantly misleads players about its actual size as it continues to expand—both above and below ground, to how weapons, armor sets, skills, and even characters differ in comparison to FromSoftware’s past works absolute quantity.
But if you’ve followed the studio’s games over the years, you know it’s common for the community to find unfinished levels, various clips, and mechanics that weren’t fully formed and disabled during development as a result.
Just recently, a major quest and mechanic was discovered involving getting NPCs drunk to get them to relax their tongues, which sadly never made it to the final stage.
Today, with the help of Zullie the Witch, the omniscient modder and regular surprise purveyor of FromSoftware games, we’re taking a look at another quest that hasn’t been finalized either. The modder and YouTuber posted a video showing that players may have been able to choose the ruler of Limgrave/Stormveil Castle to succeed Godrick the Grafted.
Of course, Godrick is the first Shardbearer demigod Boss Elden Ring players will encounter. Defeating Godric gives the player their first Great Rune – one of the two needed to reach the end of the game. No matter how important Godric was to the progression of the game, he was still Lord of Stormwind — almost the entire area of Ringgrave.
But what happens once you defeat him? Well, it turns out that Elden Ring will let you choose who should take the crown and succeed him as Lord of Stormwind. Zullie the Witch found a questline and unused dialogue that appears to have three NPCs – Kenneth Haight, Nepheli Loux, and Gostoc – as potential heirs. You only need to dedicate the crown to one of them.
The video embedded above also reveals an odd detail. Gostock, the gatekeeper you meet upon your arrival at Stormshroud Castle, claims that he is Godric’s son, and does ask you to give him the crown. If you went back to his boss arena after defeating Godric, you may have noticed that Gostock has moved there, cursing Godric and stepping on his corpse.
In earlier versions of the game, assuming you chose him as your heir, Gostoc’s story didn’t end there. Zullie suggested that defeating Godrick used to grant his crown to the player as a key/quest item that they could have used to advance the quest. It’s unclear whether your choice of heir will have any practical consequences, but it’s an interesting idea that player agent FromSoft apparently flirted with during development.
