The health crisis caused by the coronavirus keeps half the world in check with important containment measures to prevent the spread of the epidemic. This has caused numerous setbacks also in the video game industry, such as the cancellation of E3 2020 or the effect on the development of games like Halo Infinite. Riot Games, who have had to cancel various League of Legends events for security, has donated $ 1.5 million to fight the coronavirus.
Riot Games, as a company, plus co-founders Brandon Beck and Marc Merril, accustomed to collaborating with charities and minority collectives, have donated $ 1.5 million to the Los Angeles area to help minimize the economic effects and job losses caused by the coronavirus quarantine (via Polygon). This donation will go directly to the Los Angeles Food Bank, the Mayor’s Fund organization and will help provide food for the elderly, pay for medical expenses and acquire new health protection material.
This is more than welcome help, since according to the Los Angeles Times, in California, cases are doubled every two or three days. Protective equipment such as masks and gloves are starting to become scarce, both in hospitals and individuals.
