The long wait is finally over. Riot Games’ fighting game, formerly known as Project L, has received its correct name. 2XKO has arrived, with Riot planning to release it sometime in 2025.
We can assume the name is shorthand for the fact that the game is a 2v2 fighting game, and it comes with some short but sweet additional announcements. First, we finally have confirmation of 2XKO’s launch platform. The game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

We’re also peaking on the 2XKO 2024 roadmap. The game will be playable on Evo Japan, which we already know via the Project L website, but the development team is also hoping to test the game domestically this year. This will be a sweet help for those of you who have been craving a demo of Project L for years. As with the 2025 release window, there’s no specific language or specific date, so it could be anytime in the next nine months.
We also see Illaoi for the first time in the game! It’s just a short clip but she looks great!
Players can now sign up for these playtests on the new 2XKO website. The game also offers a range of new social media accounts to follow, including Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook pages. With that in mind, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise Hiring a Social Video Content Director earlier this week.

After years of occasional updates and steady development, things now seem to be starting to unravel. While the new name will certainly take some time to sink in, it’s time to officially say goodbye to the Project L moniker. This is a huge loss for the game’s detractors, as it was probably the easiest game title ever to make fun of.
However, this is obviously good news for those in charge of Project Zero-Day L who have been endlessly thinking about character concepts and eager for updates. Hopefully this means we can expect more consistent announcements leading up to launch. My eyes were set on Illaoi, a hero who was announced in a full dev blog post not too long ago but who has been mysteriously absent since.
