Is Fortnite Dead? Yes – at least if you believe Twitter. There #RipFortnite is currently trending – in Germany the hashtag has meanwhile reached the top 10 of the Twitter trends with 41,000 tweets, in the USA it even reached number 2. Does Riot's new shooter Valorant have anything to do with it? Yes and no. The backgrounds are a little more complicated.
First of all: Of course, Fortnite didn't really die. The game has not been switched off, and the number of players has dropped to zero. Rather, mostly disappointed fans gather under the hashtag. They pack their criticism in gags and video clips, such as this one:

Others joined the hashtag and exaggerated the "grief" for Fortnite more or less discreetly. The following assembly presses full on the tear glands:

And of course many Twitter users also take the opportunity to get rid of a few memes:

Valorant's extremely high attendance at Twitch was probably a trigger for the hashtag. Riot uses an ingenious beta strategy to fuel the hype surrounding the tactical shooter. However, Valorant is not to blame for the problems that Fortnite fans particularly frequently raise:
- Many don't like the new map, and graphic bugs also cause frustration.
- Of the Aim-Assist on the "Legacy Look Controls", which has given unfair advantages to console gamers has extremely annoyed many fans. After months of discussion, it should be removed – when exactly is not yet known.
- The game should lie often, apparently regardless of the operating system used.
- Many complain that developer Epic does not listen to player feedback.
Not everything is going well in Battle Royale is not new: Just recently, an analysis of the Superdata website revealed that Fortnite saw extreme drops in revenue.

Not all fans are so critical of Fortnite. There is already one Countermovement under #ThankYouEpicGames, under which players express their gratitude and satisfaction. And because the internet is a wonderful place, pearls like this video were created:
