Roccat Kone Pure Ultra: ultra-light gaming mouse

Roccat rounds off the mouse portfolio once again and gives the Kone series a new spin-off. The Roccat Kone Pure Ultra is available for 69.99 euros (RRP) in two colors (Ash Black, Arctic White) and especially wants to impress with its low weight of 66 grams. We took the tiny one to our breasts, albeit with some delay due to corona.

The Roccat Kone Pure Ultra is a very small right-handed mouse with standard equipment. The dwarf measures just 39 x 70 x 115 mm and is therefore not suitable for larger hands. The low weight of 66 grams is based only in part on the delicate design, and a new housing structure has saved additional weight. The only disadvantage: due to the thin housing, clicks and the mouse wheel are a bit louder than some of the competition, but don't worry, not that it bothers.

The ergonomics make a good impression thanks to the side curvatures. Roccat uses a silky hybrid coating for the surface, which gives a relatively good, if not outstanding grip. In other words: great for sweaty hands, not ideal for dry hands. The rodent is connected via a 1.8 meter long USB cable (not removable), which is quite flexible, dispenses with textile sheathing and hardly interferes with gaming.

Minimalism is the order of the day for the controls. Two mouse buttons with a pleasant click behavior, a rubberized 2D titanium wheel, smooth enough with good click behavior, two DPI switches and two thumb buttons. The latter are placed relatively high up, which is okay. The rear one clicks nicely, the front one could be a bit crisper from the pressure point.

Once again, an optical owl-eye sensor with Pixart PMW3389 as a basis works in the mouse, which works precisely and does not have to fear competition. An ARM Cortex processor and 512 kb memory ensure that you can save up to five profiles on the mouse. Configuration is carried out as usual using the SWARM software, which is sufficiently easy to use. The same applies to the lighting, which is limited to the logo on the back of the mouse.

The mouse leaves a good impression both when gaming and when working. The sensor works quickly and precisely, the mouse wheel is smooth and easy to click. The thumb buttons take some getting used to due to their position and the click behavior of the front button. All in all, a solid rodent with whom you can hardly go wrong.

Accesses when …

… you are looking for an ultra-light gaming mouse for small hands.

Save it if …

… you are left-handed or have large paws.

Conclusion

Powerful fly weight

The Roccat Kone Pure Ultra turns out to be a successful gaming rodent that scores with good quality and extremely low weight. There is hardly anything to complain about. The sensor works quickly and precisely, the pressure points of the buttons are fine (even if the front thumb button clicks a little too softly for me personally), the ergonomics are pleasant. 70 euros is a bit too much for the overall minimalist mouse to set itself apart from the competition without any other unique selling points, but you can hardly go wrong with the Kone Pure Ultra. Unless you have big paws, because the mouse is designed for more delicate hands.
