It’s not just fans of the TV channel RTL who get their money’s worth with RTL+. Live TV, media libraries from many channels, in-house productions (originals) and even exclusive US series and Hollywood films are now part of the content you get from the streaming provider.

RTL+ trial month: The most important information at a glance

• For all other content you need a paid subscription.
• At RTL+, this is divided into the packages “Basic”, “Premium” and “Max”.
• The Max subscription costs you 5.99 dollars, the Premium subscription 8.99 dollars and the Max subscription 12.99 dollars per month.
• You can save by paying annually instead of monthly.
• However, as of February 7, 2024, there is no longer a free trial month.
• The Family subscription is only available for existing customers; new customers have to choose between the “Basic”, “Premium” and “Max” packages.

RTL+ trial month: Can you test RTL+ for free?

Until February 6, 2024, new subscribers could benefit from a free trial month. However, as of February 7, this was abolished and all new subscriptions are subject to payment from day one. This change follows the trend of other streaming providers such as Netflix and Disney+, which have also discontinued their free trial periods. Instead, users can access selected content for free via RTL+ Free.

RTL Plus trial month: What does RTL+ Free offer?

Although the free trial month is no longer available, it is still possible to use RTL+ for free. With the free RTL+ package, users have the opportunity to stream numerous new series, TV shows, radio stations and podcasts. The free package offers access to highlights from the TV channels RTL, VOX and more, which can be streamed via the web browser or app up to 7 days after the TV broadcast.

RTL+ Free is therefore more of a media library of well-known channels such as RTL, VOX, Nitro or Super RTL. RTL+ only becomes a streaming service with one of the three paid subscriptions RTL+ Basic, RTL+ Premium or RTL+ Max. With the Max subscription, there are no advertising breaks during streaming at all and you can watch up to two parallel streams.

Even more important than these convenience functions are the many additional contents that you can unlock with the RTL Basic, Premium and Max subscription. In addition to many exclusive series and films, this also includes in-house productions, sports broadcasts and sporting events, as well as reality formats that you won’t see anywhere else.

Which packages are available on RTL+?

In addition, with a paid RTL+ subscription you can stream a lot of content in HD quality and watch many shows before they are broadcast on TV. With a price of 12.99 dollars per month for the most expensive subscription to RTL+, the price for so much entertainment is correspondingly high. The premium subscription is a little cheaper at 8.99 dollars per month, but it still adds up to a hefty sum over the year.

By subscribing to RTL+ Premium or RTL+ Max not just for a month, but for a whole year, you can save money in the long run. With the Premium subscription, you can reduce the costs by around 18 dollars, and with the Max subscription, you can even reduce them by around 25 dollars per year.

RTL+ trial month: Can you cancel RTL plus after one month?

Even though the free trial month has been abolished, all subscriptions can be canceled monthly. This means that you can take out a subscription for one month and cancel it straight away if you don’t like it. This is especially true as all three packages have a discounted price for the first three months of the contract. This keeps the risk low.

The RTL+ Max package has the largest scope. Thanks to two parallel streams, other users can also get an impression of the RTL+ offering.

You should remember that the notice period is 30 days. If you do not cancel the package with 30 days’ notice, it will automatically be extended for another month. The 30-day notice period will remain in place.

Subscription tricks: Watch live TV content in the trial month

RTL Plus Free allows users to stream selected content, including episodes of TV shows and series that have recently aired on free TV. This access is ideal for those who want to get a first impression of what the service has to offer without immediately signing up for a paid subscription.

Live streams of the current TV program are not available in the free version. If you want to watch RTL content as a live stream for free and legally, you can take out a trial month with the TV streaming service Zattoo or Waipu.tv and enjoy the TV program for free.

RTL Plus: Discounts and vouchers

Apart from the trial month, RTL+ sometimes reduces the prices for one or even all three paid subscriptions. However, the streaming provider is currently not offering any discounts, which is why the fixed prices remain. This can of course change at any time.

Streaming services tested: Netflix, Disney+, Amazon and Co. in comparison

Special discounts like those offered by Amazon with its video streaming service Amazon Prime for students are not (yet) available on RTL+. This means that everyone pays the same price regardless of their status. The only exceptions are discount campaigns and voucher codes that are sometimes offered on other websites and by other service providers.

Avoid shady streaming portals

Some shady streaming portals may also offer free streams for RTL+. Using such streaming portals is a criminal offense. In the worst case, viruses can get onto your device. You should therefore avoid the streams. We will tell you which streaming providers are reputable and which are not.
