RTX 3090 Ti with 1,275 watt power connection spotted

connection, power, RTX, Spotted, Watt

A few weeks ago we reported that the power consumption should double with the next generation of graphics cards from Nvidia, i.e. RTX 4000. Instead of 350 watts, as the RTX 3090 Founders Edition consumes at its maximum, for a possible RTX 4090 it would then be a good 700 watts (675 watts to be precise):

Twice as fast as RTX 3090, but at 700 watts

Rumor about RTX 4090

Twice as fast as RTX 3090, but at 700 watts

Now it seems as if the graphics card manufacturer EVGA is already anticipating this with the current RTX-3000 series. Specifically, the RTX 3090 Ti, which has not yet been officially confirmed, should be provided in the kingpin version with two 12-pin power connections, which, including the PCIe slot, can theoretically consume up to 1,275 watts of power. At least that’s what a report by colleagues from Videocardz which in turn refers to a post in the forum of the Korean website Quasarzone.com appointed.

How credible is the report?

RTX 3090 Ti: It seems almost certain that there will actually be an RTX 3090 Ti. Lately the leaks and rumors condensed massively, the first custom designs were even photographed. The release of the new top model from Nvidia should take place on January 27th. Previous reports speak of a power consumption of 450 watts for the 3090 Ti, i.e. 100 watts more than the normal variant.

1.275 Watt: The Kingpin models from EVGA are characterized by high overclockability. They are already delivered from the factory with a water cooling system. An LN2 mode is also available to you. LN2 stands for liquid nitrogen and enables temperatures of a maximum of -196 degrees Celsius or 77 Kelvin under normal pressure. This allows very high power input or heat output to be compensated.

the EVGA RTX 3090 Kingpin for example, offers three 8-pin power connectors that can each deliver 150 watts. Including the PCIe slot (75 watts), this theoretically adds up to 525 watts.

For the RTX 3090 Ti Kingpin, it is therefore quite conceivable that two 12-pin connections make sense. With a 12-pin connector, power consumption is limited to a maximum of 675 watts (600 plus 75 watts). This is already a lot and actually complete madness, but it could still be a little too little for maximum overclockability. However, it is unrealistic that the full 1,275 watts are used.

What do you think of the possible RTX 3090 Ti Kingpin? Total madness, especially in view of environmental problems or an interesting product? Feel free to write it in the comments!
