Unfortunately, accidents happen all the time on film sets. Former Harry Potter stunt double David Holmes has been in a wheelchair since a fall while filming The Deathly Hallows. The tragic incident on the set of The Crow that cost Brandon Lee his life is still unforgotten to this day.
Russell Crowe was also once very lucky. In an interview with the People Magazine the 59-year-old actor revealed that he was filming Robin Hood seriously injured – but only found out the full extent of it ten years later.
Like an electric shock
What happened? On the set of director Ridley Scott’s 2010 action film, Crowe, in his role as Robin Hood, jumped from a great height onto a hard stone floor. It was immediately clear to the actor that something was wrong:
I jumped from a castle portcullis onto rock-hard, uneven ground. We should have prepared the ground and put down a base, but we were in a hurry to get the shot done in the fading daylight. It was like an electric shock running through my body.
However, Russell Crowe did not seek medical attention, on the contrary: He went through the filming cold-bloodedly in the following weekseven if his body made itself known:
We made a big film and you just fight your way through it. But the last month of this job was very difficult. There were a number of weeks when even walking was a challenge.
Everything for art
10 years later:
Crowe thinks about it, but can’t think of it. Only a note from the doctor sheds light on the matter:
He could see the remains of fractures in both shins. To jog my memory he said: That would probably have been about 10 years ago?
.
Apparently I finished the film with two broken legs. Everything for art. No cast, no splint, no painkillers, I just kept going to work and over time it healed [die Beine] by itself.
In his new film, Russell Crowe is at least allowed to sit a lot.
In the upcoming Gladiator 2, however, Crowe plays no role – even though director Ridley Scott even had an idea for Maximus’ return. Fans of the first part can still be excited about the film, which starts on November 22nd, 2024. Because the first excerpts should be sent to those responsible at the film studio socks taken off
